ON TAP This week…
From transportation and delivery to bootlegging, cars and trucks have played a key role in the distribution of beverages throughout the US. It is a big week for classic cars around here and we hope you can take a minute to enjoy their beauty and historical significance. The Stone tap takeover at Beer NV is on the “Don’t Miss” list for this weekend. Cheers! Read on for details about events, releases and news for our local craft beverage scene for the upcoming week in the Northern Nevada region.
We cover local homebrewing events here, so why not home winemaker events? Each month Nevada Sunset Winery features a tasting from a local winemaker. This Friday, taste a variety of wines from Bill Staehlin. Bill has been a home winemaker since 2005, making great wine with fruit from the Alexander Valley, Lodi and the Sierra Foothills. He focuses primarily on the Bordeaux varietals, with some forays into Zinfandel and Petit Sirah. Bill has received numerous awards at various competitions including home wine competitions and the California State Fair. He is also a wine judge and a Level 1 Sommelier.
Bill will probably be pouring his 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 Petit Sirah and a couple of 2013 Bordeaux Blends.
Joining Bill will be Kathy Huber-Halberdier, who will serve some library wines from a long-standing venture in Northern Nevada. She will be here to pour some hidden treasures and share some history about the wine industry in Nevada. The tastings are free, however, donations will be accepted and will go to the Red Cross for fire relief.

Beer NV 3rd Anniversary Party – This is a massive tap takeover that should not be missed with 40+ taps featuring Stone Brewing beers. You’ll find some of your favorites, but also some rare releases from the Stone cellar. If that isn’t enough, Stone will also be raffling off some ridiculously cool prizes. Raffle entry will be from 1 PM -7 PM with the drawing taking place at 7 PM. In order to win you must be 21 or over and in the bar at the time of the drawing. Saib will also be on hand making his delicious tacos.

Brasserie Saint James just released Kiwi G a Tart Kiwi Grissette, dry-hopped with Rakau. This rustic wheat saison was brewed with wheat and fermented with Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces. It was refermented with pureed kiwis and later dry-hopped with Rakau from New Zealand. The aroma is similar to what we imagine “candied” hops to exhume. It drinks light and is refreshing with subtle acidity and notes of lime, green apple, fresh cut grass, vanilla, and stone fruit. The use of wheat helped provide a soft and slightly creamy mouthfeel. 5.2% ABV.
For the 4th year, Sierra Taphouse will release Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest Lager in collaboration with Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery! Sierra Nevada’s own brewer, Isaiah Mangold, will be at the taphouse on Thursday (8/9) to help celebrate. This year’s version uses a traditional floor malted Munich malt, giving the beer rich biscuit notes. The malt backbone is balanced by subtle hop character of Sterling, Spalter and Record in this crisp, clean and drinkable crowd-pleaser. 6% ABV.
Shoe Tree Brewing is pouring two new beers…
RYE IPA, Brewed with 50% rye malt! Brewed with a piney and citrus hop bill. It’s a sneaky 7.5% ABV.
Also a Classic Saison with notes of clove and banana. 6.9% ABV.
