Welcome to August. Hot, smokey and summer marches on. Nothing tastes quite like a cold beer on a hot day. That’s probably why I’m drinking more these days. We’re getting caught up on releases and we have a couple of events this weekend. Cheers! Read on for details about events, releases and news for our local craft beverage scene for the upcoming week in the Northern Nevada region.
Bacon, Bourbon & Brews – Unlimited beer and bourbon tastings from local brewers and distillers, bacon-themed culinary creations from local, award-winning chefs, live music by Escalade, and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada.

FiftyFifty Brewing – Ales for ALS is a program where breweries are offered access to an experimental hop blend to use to brew a specialty beer and donate a portion of sales for ALS. To support this program, 50/50 has released Walt Hoppy Saison. Light malt character with spiciness. Notes of orange peel & and pine. 30 IBU, 5.2% ABV.
Alibi Ale Works has released Alibi IPA. After years of delicious experimentation, they are getting very close to having a “house” IPA. It’s West Coast in style, mountain-loving in attitude. It’s loaded with Eldorado, Mosaic, Simcoe and Eureka hops. It’s dank, full of ripe melon, with a resinous pine sap finish. Cans should be available soon. 6.2% ABV.
Pigeon Head Brewery has a new beer…Swing Shift N.E. Style IPA is a riff on Juicy Smooch. Brewed with massive amounts of Citra and Mosaic hops. Hazy and juicy. On tap and in cans. 5.7% ABV
IMBĪB Custom Brews has released Abiogenesis #7 in bottles. This bottle conditioned beer is a blend of multiple long-term barrel aged beers that sat on multiple harvests of muscat grapes.
Shoe Tree Brewing has released Wicked Shifty Sour NE IPA, kettle soured and shoved into a fermenter full of hops. This thing is super juicy and crushable. 50 IBU, 6.2% ABV
Sierra Tap House has Beer Camp #217. This limited one-time-only beer was brewed by local homebrewers, Brandon Siri and Tristan Bamberger in Chico at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and was inspired in part by Brewer’s Cabinet’s recent collaboration beer with Sierra Nevada (Electrum).
Beer Camp 217 (Codename Fuzzy Little Thing) is an ale brewed with all the cool new experimental ingredients, including an anti-cryo-hop-powder in the boil and 4 kinds of hops in the whirlpool, hopback, and torpedo including 2 of which are brand new experimental varieties. To finish it off, peach, apricot and allspice were added to round out this juicy summer seasonal. Join them for the launch party at Sierra Tap House this Thursday starting at 4 PM.
