This weekend, Sunday specifically, a HUGE amount of alcohol will be consumed. In dollar terms, that number is in the billions. It is not, however, the most popular beer holiday as it ranks behind Labor Day, Memorial Day, Christmas, July 4th and Thanksgiving (according to Nielsen data). Hopefully, you will consider bringing a local option for your adult consumption. So whatever your highlight may be for Sunday: the commercials, the half-time show, hanging with friends or maybe even the game itself, enjoy yourself and be safe; remember, the next day is Monday. Final note: I’m so over “Dilly, Dilly”.

Besides the Superbowl, we have a few things going on around town this week. Read on for details on events, releases and news on our local craft beverage scene in the Northern Nevada region.

We have added a couple of new happenings to our EVENTS page! Just in case you wanted to plan ahead…

10 Torr Distilling & Brewing is releasing their very first gin. It is a vacuum distilled London Dry style gin with notes of citrus and cucumber. Vacuum distillation allows for the botanical flavors and aromas to be super crisp and pure.

IMBĪB Custom Brews has released a Russian Imperial Stout on nitro. This beer is full of dark chocolate, roast coffee, and hints of cherry fruit. Full bodied and chewy but not overly sweet.  A bourbon barrel version will be released next month.

Alibi Ale Works has released English Session Beer (ESB). This malt-forward amber ale draws it’s inspiration from the pub beers of England and was fermented with a traditional London ale yeast. Burgundy in color, it smells of leather-bound books and rich mahogany. Waves of toasted bread and toffee give way to a floral/woody finish from Oregon-grown Santiam hops. It’s hearty yet highly sessionable at a modest 4.4% ABV. Enjoy it at both taprooms.

Pigeon Head Brewery has released  Hazy River IPA, a New England-style/Hazy IPA, named after the Wai-iti hop imported from New Zealand and known for tropical and citrus flavors and aroma. Paired with El Dorado and Citra hops! Available in the taproom and in cans soon. 6.7% ABV

On Friday (2/2), Revision Brewing Co. will release Glitter Moon NE Style Double IPA. The bulk of the hop aroma and flavor in this brew come from the land down under. Galaxy and Vic Secret hops from Australia exude pineapple and passion fruit goodness while a solid chunk of oats in the grain bill makes for a smooth mouth feel. 8.5% ABV, 40 IBU’s. Available in 16oz 4-packs and draft.

News & Fodder

Congratulations to Craft Wine & Beer who recently celebrated their 7th anniversary. Sorry we didn’t have details on this sooner.

The Eddy is closed for the season and will re-open in March.

Back to the Super Bowl…this is an amusing primer on Minnesota for SB visitors. You can read it HERE. Why do I mention it? It was written by a local brewery. Enjoy.

Directions to all the local craft establishments can be found on our CRAFT MAP.
